One of the latest innovations in the field of cosmetic dentistry is a technique that requires no drilling and no anesthesia. It’s called Lumineers and it’s an ultra-thin veneer that can be bonded directly to the tooth’s surface without the need for trimming.
Here at Lifetime Dental, we recommend Lumineers to patients who have chipped, cracked, gapped, discolored or misshapen teeth. With Lumineers, they can expect beautiful results without worrying about pain.
Lumineers vs. Veneers
Both Lumineers and veneers can improve your smile. However, they have differences in terms of how they are applied and how they affect your teeth. The following are some of the similarities and differences:
- Lumineers and veneers can improve the look of misaligned and crooked teeth/tooth.
- Lumineers and veneers can hide any imperfections.
- Lumineers and veneers can make your teeth whiter and brighter.
- Lumineers and veneers can cover gaps in between your teeth.
- Lumineers and veneers look very natural.
- Lumineers and veneers are durable and requires very little maintenance.
- Lumineers and veneers do not stain or change their color.
Knowing the differences between both options is crucial in your decision-making process. That is why here in our Rancho Cucamonga office, we always take the time to explain to our patients the differences between Lumineers and veneers.
To begin with, veneers will require the reshaping of your tooth/teeth. Some enamel will need to be filed and removed to make way for the thin shell of porcelain to be placed over your tooth. So you will be administered local anesthesia at the start of the procedure in order to prevent any pain and discomfort while the dentist removes a portion of your enamel. In addition, the procedure will require at least two visits to our office. The first one would be to make a mold of your tooth/teeth and bite and send it to the laboratory where your custom veneers will be made. On your second visit, the veneers will be placed over your teeth by bonding it with a special cement.
Lumineers, on the other hand, are non-invasive and your original tooth/teeth do not need to be filed at all. Lumineers are much thinner than veneers but they are just as durable. During the procedure you won’t require anesthesia or a numbing agent. It’s really painless and straightforward so expect the procedure to be finished in no time.
