Teeth Whitening

A beautiful smile starts with the teeth. When you have brighter and whiter teeth, your smile will look more attractive and you’ll also feel more confident about yourself. This is why many of our patients who come to our office here in Rancho Cucamonga, CA are interested in our teeth whitening service.

Over time, the color of the teeth changes. It may become yellow, gray and sometimes even black. There are many reasons for this. The food and drinks we consume can stain the teeth, such as coffee, red wine and tomato sauce. Some habits like smoking also lead to teeth darkening. Medications, certain diseases, old age, and trauma can also cause discoloration.

Types of Teeth Discoloration

There are essentially 3 types of tooth discoloration. The first one is extrinsic and it affects the outer tooth layer called the enamel. This is mostly caused by foods and drinks that stain the teeth, as well as smoking.

The second type is intrinsic and the staining occurs in the inner tooth structure called the dentin. The use of tetracyclines and excessive fluoride has been known to cause intrinsic discoloration. Trauma and certain medical conditions are also known causes.

The last type is categorized as age-related. When we get older, our dentin will adopt a more yellowish hue while the enamel of our teeth becomes thinner. Our teeth also become weaker as we age and all these things can lead to the darkening of our teeth.

What We Can Do

If you have dark or stained teeth, you don’t have to live with it for the rest of your life. At Lifetime Dental, we offer several solutions to make your teeth brighter and with teeth whitening, your teeth will become several shades whiter.

We offer two types of teeth whitening. The first option is the use of bleaching trays. We will make a mold of your teeth and provide you with a special whitening gel. You’ll apply the gel onto the tray and put it over your teeth daily until you have reached the desired shade. With this kind of whitening, you will have whiter teeth after a few weeks.

But if you want fast results, the best solution would be in-office teeth whitening. Dr. Afzali will apply bleaching gel to your teeth and allow it to work for 15-30 minutes. It will then be suctioned off and a second batch will be applied for another 15-30 minutes. The teeth will then be exposed to intense light to activate the bleaching process. When you leave our office, you will have sparkling white teeth and a much improved smile.
